Panjab University enhances Faculty assessment
Panjab University enhances Faculty assessment and Campus inclusivity
The Panjab University syndicate convened on Saturday to endorse the establishment of a framework and guidelines for evaluating temporary or guest faculty members. The aim is to provide an avenue for extending their appointments beyond a single semester. This move aligns with University Grants Commission (UGC) directives and seeks to elevate the contributions of such faculty members within the university's departments.
Unified Evaluation Criteria
To ensure equitable treatment, the selection procedure for appointing guest faculty members will closely mirror that employed for regular teachers. In accordance with UGC guidelines, the Joint Academic and Administrative Committees (JAAC) within each department will be tasked with evaluating the performance of guest faculty members. This standardization is expected to promote consistency and fairness in assessing the contributions of both guest and regular teaching staff.

Expanded Involvement: Beyond Lecture Delivery
The newly formed committee, led by the Dean of University Instruction (DUI) Rumina Sethi, highlights the need for greater engagement from guest faculty members. With the UGC increasing the maximum honorarium limit to ₹50,000, including ₹1,500 per lecture, there's an emphasis on their active involvement in departmental activities. This involvement encompasses research endeavors and participation in various departmental initiatives.
Youth Welfare Committee Recommendations
The syndicate also embraced the recommendations presented by the Punjab University Youth Welfare Committee. Budget allocations for participation in inter-university, state, north zone, and national events were augmented. This included provisions for travel expenses and uniforms for inter-varsity contingents.
